MyUSA.us does not send background air-quality alerts. Check AirNow and follow local public-health and emergency instructions when smoke or pollution is elevated.
Wind & fire weather
Know what the official alert means
Strong, gusty wind can rapidly increase fire spread and carry embers downwind. A fire-weather alert describes conditions that could make fires harder to control; it does not necessarily mean a wildfire is burning.
Fire Weather Watch
Critical fire-weather conditions are possible, but are not yet imminent or occurring. Check updates and local restrictions.
Red Flag Warning
Critical fire-weather conditions are happening or about to happen. Avoid activities that could start a fire and follow local instructions.
Air Quality Alert
Smoke or another pollutant may pose a health concern. Check the AQI and public-health guidance; this is separate from a fire-weather warning.
Do not use a lower-wind forecast hour to override a Fire Weather Watch, Red Flag Warning, burn ban, evacuation order, or other official instruction.
